Photo this month is of a Australian Native Blue Banded Bee pollinating a Buddleia or ‘Butterfly Bush’. These bees live in small colonies but are very effective pollinators and can be found on almost any flowering plant although like their European cousins they do seem to like plants in the Mint Family. They are fairly loud and have a distinctive hum when flying about in the garden. We could not have seeds without our pollinators!
