Seed Savers meeting 16 August 2026

It’s time to get all your Spring seeds germinated and ready to go for the upcoming growing year. It pays to plan what you want to grow and harvest and get those seeds and seedlings ready to plant out when the right time comes along. Many plants need a long run in time like the peppers and tomatoes. It’s also a great time to do cuttings and get many of your herbs growing. These can all be done now in a protected environment. You can also get better results if you use things like heated grow mats and place everything inside a humid container. Some seeds down need light – just oxygen, heat and some moisture to get them going – but its’ a good idea to check if the seeds also need light to speed up or initiate germination. We have passed the winter solstice so the days are actually getting slowly longer again. This change in light levels along with the cold will often start the growing hormones and chemical process that say ‘wake up!’.

It’s that time again!
This is just a quick reminder that the meeting for August 2026 of the Mid Blue Mountains SeedSavers is on at the Bullaburra Progress Hall this weekend.

Sunday 16 August 2026 from 10 am till Midday

Help celebrate the Blue Mountains Winter! (and plan for the upcoming sprint)

This meeting will be again focussed on the practical aspects of seed saving including harvesting, filtering/sieving and cleaning seeds along with packing and storage.

Bring your plant material and seeds from this current season and we will discuss how to process them.
