Seed Savers meeting 18 October 2026

The end and the beginning… Spring usually marks the point at which our garden systems turn over and we start a new cycle. However there is actually always usually something germinating, growing, flowering and going to seed year round. You will see many food plants still producing like the leafy greens and even some new additions like asparagus and the Globe artichokes shown here that have a short but memorable seasonal appearance. And in a cooler temperate climate like ours it’s time to start your seeds for the summer growing season. A good reuse can be made of all those small food plastic containers to create your own mini glasshouses to get good germination with a small sealed transparent environment that keeps your seeds and soil in a nice humid warm state. Reuse is always better than recycling – and – these containers are an ideal size and environment for seed germination. You can easily fit a few stacked on a windowsill or similar bright sunny area inside or outside to get the best possible start for your plants.

It’s that time again!
This is just a quick reminder that the meeting for October 2026 of the Mid Blue Mountains SeedSavers is on at the Bullaburra Progress Hall this weekend.

Sunday 18 October 2026 from 10 am till Midday

Help celebrate the Blue Mountains Spring!

This meeting will be again focussed on the practical aspects of seed saving including harvesting, filtering/sieving and cleaning seeds along with packing and storage.

Bring your plant material and seeds from this current season and we will discuss how to process them.
